So so far we have fineshed qbout four brochures that shows problems with being overwheight, how to preent it. We created one for adults and one for kids and teens with games to grab their attention.
Now we have a new challenge and that's creating a video to also adress the problem. In this challenge we mst creat a video that tell kids and teens that they might be overwheight with them ignoring the problem, how they become overwheight, and how to prevent it. Also we have to grab their attention in doing so, and be "hard" in adressing the problem. To do so i decided to incorprate drarth vader in adressing the problem using segmented photoes from the film starwars, captions, and the famous classic song "eperior march." this way i can be rude while saying "hey. Your fat because of this and that" while using a fictional evil charecter as an escape goat and also giving the clip a bit of a comedy spirit to it. This video should attract teens and english/spanish audiences.
So far this project is going great and i love it more than the previous challenge. This shows that you can battel disease a d health complications all day, but it will be more effective if you tried to prevent it from occuring. Here we have patients already with problems. We now try to make them prevent more health complications for them and their kids. This video is perfict as well because while the parents are busy with their business, the bored teens with nothing to will be attracted to the famous starwars msic and watch the informative comedy movie, even more than once.

Done...but Print?
So i finished the brochure that my team and i were working on. Faraz researched the items that i talked about in th ebrochure and and i created the actual display and layout. In the mean time Janise created one with the same information but for the kids. The only problem with the Kids' brochure is that it's filled with information that normal kids might not understand, or would not pick up to read, and that was the main challenge for that brochure in particular. After creating the main brochure, the main problem is that we cannot print it. The brochure is too colorful especially with the red color that the printer is having problems printing the red. The next project would be some kind of presentation that we would give to the kids to inform them about the weight gain problem.
Over all this project showed me personally how one small common problem can lead to another major complication. Weight gain problems are not that big of a deal personally to me and i thought could be easily avoided or corrected, but to find out what complications it leads to, and that two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese just show me the oposite.
Lets see where this would lead to...

New Project
well, it's been a while since i blogged here, but again, not so much happened since we just passed holidays and exams that prevented me from going to the clinic. But again the past week 3 UST members and i started on a new project that is somewhat linked to the same project im working on for this class. The asked some UST students to create brochure about child obesity, and its problems. Two members and i would research what's being put, then I would create and design the brochure itself, then the fourth would translate it to Spanish. So far we completed one without translating it. We showed it to them and the first reaction was "WOW...that's the best one I've seen out of students...or the best period." and actually that was just the first. Our plan is to create two, one for the kids and the other for adults and parents (which we just did).
So far we are still working on the one for the kids, where it might prove to be more difficult to create than the one for the parents, simply because we need to figure out how we can make the kid grab one (attention getter).
So far this voulnteering is getting much better and more interesting by the week...we'll see how things go.

Good Week After All
So this week was pretty good at the clinic with a lot of new things to do every day. The first day of the week, a friend from UST and I helped in hanging crosses, pictures, and nail in various objects. With my past experience with Habitat for Humanity and a member of a team that built an Orthodox monastery at Corpus Christy this work was a piece cake, and also fun. The Second week wasn’t as active but informative. I worked at the Clinics pharmacy and learned of their humanitarian PAP system. It’s a system for those who cannot afford medical treatment when they needed it. Instead of giving it to them with a discount, if they qualify then get it for free. (atleast that’s what I understood from the pharmacy tech). The doctor for the patient would prescribe various medical treatments to the patient and the patient would apply for PAP. If accepted the pharmacy would order the medicine and gives it to the patient. The pharmacy tech however took me to the back and showed me all the medicines that was ordered for patients that are under the PAP but was not picked up. It surprised me because many of those medications were essential such as inhalers, which only leaves me to wonder about how the patients are managing without it.

Good Choice ;-)
well, this was my first week in volunteering at my clinic. So far i didn't do anything buy filling, since it's a new building and instead of racks, most of the files are still in numbered boxes, along with little confusion about what goes where too. the atmosphere itself is pretty good, and i loved it. So far however i only volunteered about an hour a day, due to circumstances that didn't allow me to do other wise. Anyhow, i think im going to like volunteering this semester, and it was a good choice, i should've made that choice last time.

Go.Go.Go
So, the last time i was here i told you guys that my next post will describe my first day in the clinic. Well..it turns out that that's not entirely true after all, it will tell you however that I am in, but not my first day yet (unless if was going to be late a couple of days posting this). So the good news is that i will start this project learning probably this week by Thursday, but also i will start a couple of other things too. The only thing i can do now is to just Go Go Go.
Now next time i WILL describe my first day, till then...

Hmm!!
It comes a time in a man's life where he realizes that 3 weeks have passed since the start of the semester instead of 3 days. With everything that has come up with this week, plus this week's cell test i was only able to shoot one email to the clinic i want to volunteer in this semester. After the test im aiming to do what is necessary to see to it the next time i write on this blog, it's going to describe my first day in the clinic....hopefully. If not..then im in trouble :S
